Infantile esotropia is treated medically by correction of any refractive errors and treatment of amblyopia. If this is unsuccessful, surgery is indicated once the eyes have been re-examined and reproducible errors of refraction can be demonstrated. Many methods may be used. The most popular are the weakening of both medial recti muscles; and the recession of the medial rectus and resection of the lateral rectus on the same eye.
