management of urinary incontinence

  • treat any identifiable cause e.g. UTI, benign prostatic hypertrophy
  • consider drug therapy for detrusor instability
  • consider urinary continence aids such as Kanga pants - an absorbent pad made from a one-way repellent fabric that is held in the patient's pants
  • consider geography - is the patient's bed close enough to their toilet
  • consider other help e.g. laundry service, district nurse
