minor splenomegaly

Minor splenomegaly may be caused by:
- early stages of diseases causing massive and moderate splenomegaly
- polycythaemia rubra vera
- essential thrombocythaemia
- haemolytic anaemia
- viral infection:
- infectious mononucleosis
- viral hepatitis
- bacterial infection:
- infective endocarditis
- miliary tuberculosis
- connective tissue disorders:
- rheumatoid arthritis
- polyarteritis nodosa
- systemic lupus erythematosus
- Felty's syndrome
- infiltrative disorders:
- amyloidosis
- sarcoidosis
- metastatic disease
- histiocytoses e.g. Letterer-Siwe disease
- megaloblastic anaemia - rarely
