Valaciclovir is indicated for the treatment of:
- herpes zoster infection
- initial and recurrent herpes simplex infection:
- mucocutaneous
- genital
Caution is required in:
- renal failure
- pregnancy and lactation
Side-effects include:
- nausea
- diarrhoea
- abdominal pain
- neurological reactions
Dose:
- zoster: 1 g three times daily for 7 days
- simplex: 500 mg twice dialy for 5 days
