Tight control of blood pressure in type 2 diabetics results in clinically significant reduction in:
- the risk of deaths related to diabetes
- complications related to diabetes
- progression of diabetic retinopathy
- deterioration in visual acuity
Many patients will need more than one anti-hypertensive agent; in the trial 29% of patients in the tight control group required three or more drugs.
