Co-amoxiclav is a compound preparation of amoxycillin and the beta-lactamase inhibitor clavulanic acidn(1).. The clavulanic acid protects the amoxycillin from the penicillinases produced by virtually all Staphylococci, 30% of E.coli, a 10% of H.influenzae and many Bacteroides and Klebsiella species (2).
Co-amoxiclav also can be an effective drug for the antimicrobial treatment and prophylaxis of many anaerobic infections (3).
Contra-indications include:
- penicillin hypersensitivity
