Congenital causes of a decreased rate of platelet production include:
- megakaryocytic hypoplasia
- thrombocytopaenia/absent radii syndrome (TAR)
- Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome
- congenital leukaemia e.g. Down's syndrome
- Fanconi's anaemia
