Possible complications features of non-physiological jaundice include:
- kernicterus, with subsequent choreathetosis evolving in the second year of life
The following are part of the clinical picture of kernicterus, but merit separate consideration:
- opisthotonus
- spasticity
- convulsions
- mental retardation
- deafness
mental retardation (term that has been replaced by intellectual developmental disorder)
