People who are at a high risk of exposure to the virus or of complications should be offered vaccination (1)
- people aged 1 year or over, traveling to or going to reside in countries
of moderate or high endemicity
- vaccination is not considered necessary for people who travel to Northern or Western Europe (including Spain, Portugal and Italy), or North America, Australia or New Zealand

- patients with chronic liver diseases including people with chronic hepatitis B & C infection
- patients with haemophilia
- men who have sex with men
- injecting drug users
- individuals at occupational risks
- laboratory workers
- staff of some large residential institution
- sewage workers
- people who handle primates
- under certain circumstances in
- food packagers and handlers
- staff in day care facilities
- healthcare workers - most healthcare workers are not at increased risk of hepatitis A and routine immunisation is not indicated (1)
