Absolute indicators
- chest symptoms
- neurological symptoms other than headache
- haemorrhagic rash or bleeding
- severe disease - dense rash/numerous mucosal lesions
- significant immunosuppression
Contributory factors
- pregnancy approaching term;
- bad obstetric history;
- smoker;
- chronic lung disease;
- poor social circumstances;
- GP unable to monitor patient closely
