Chlamydia pneumoniae
- this is the commonest cause of chlamydial pneumonia in adults
- characterised by biphasic illness:
- initially upper respiratory illness - e.g. pharyngitis, otitis media
- then a pneumonia may develop
- diagnosis via Chlamydia serology
- treatment:
- tetracycline
