nasal decongestants (systemic)

Last reviewed 01/2018

Although the efficacy of systemic nasal decongestants is doubtful they are not as bad as the local preparations which can cause rebound rhinitis.

Broadly speaking these compounds are sympathomimetics - thus should be avoided in diabetics, hypertensives, patients with hyperthyroidism or coronary artery disease or patients on MAO inhibitors.
