Factors predisposing to subdural haemorrhage include:
- any factor that stretches the bridging veins:
- cerebral atrophy, e.g. elderly
- low CSF pressure after shunting, for example for long- standing hydrocephalus or a fistula
- alcoholism
- coagulation disorder or anticoagulation therapy
