- haemorrhage may present as rapid swelling of the neck, or as a large blood loss via the wound drain. A mediastinal haemorrhage may present as hypovolaemic shock.
- laryngeal oedema - presents as acute airway obstruction
- thyrotoxic crisis
- hypocalcaemia - usually transient
