ecthyma

Last reviewed 07/2021

Ecthyma is an ulcerative form of impetigo classically due to Streptococcus pyogenes. Typically, it follows debility or local cutaneous trauma. Lesions are distributed mainly on the shins and the forearms.

Occasionally, Staphylococcus aureus may be cultured.

Treatment is with the same systematic bacterial therapy as for impetigo (1).
