Bromocriptine is used where there is problems with L-dopa therapy e.g. gradual ineffectiveness and the on/off phenomena.

This drug should be used with caution in patients over 70 years of age. Important side effects include hypotension, nausea and psychotic reactions.

Apomorphine, a drug only prescribed in specialist centres, appears to an effective treatment measure when patients develop on/off phenomenon.
