- sudden death
- cardiac arrhythmias
- left ventricular failure
- cardiogenic shock
- pericarditis
- rupture of papillary muscle or chordae tendinae:
- usually presents as acute pulmonary oedema from mitral regurgitation
- may require urgent surgical treatment
- ventricular septal defect
- cardiac rupture and subsequent cardiac tamponade
- hypertension - in the acute situation lower blood pressures are managed depending on cause
- iatrogenic - complications of pacing etc.
