gastric ulcer

Gastric ulcers occur three times more commonly in males than in females, with the highest incidence between ages 40 and 80 years.

There is some evidence that at least some gastric ulcers are due to an excess of the antral hormone, gastrin; thus they may be cured by antrectomy in which the gastric ulcer itself is left in situ.

They may complicate pyloric stenosis where food stasis stimulates prolonged antral secretion of gastrin.
