road traffic accidents

For immediate safety:
- assess the scene for those at immediate risk
- make sure there is no danger to yourself or others
- park defensively, if necessary at an angle to deflect another vehicle away from casualties and rescuers
- use warning triangles and hazard lights and if possible send someone well back to warn and slow down traffic
- turn off all engine ignitions and forbid smoking
- send bystanders to summon ambulance, police and if needed a fire crew to prevent fire and release anyone trapped
- triage casualties and prioritise your actions
- remember that paramedics have vastly more experience and training than most GP's
