cerebello-pontine meningioma

Meningiomas growing in the cerebello-pontine angle may produce a picture similar to that of acoustic neuroma.
Characteristically, there is:
- loss of hearing in the ipsilateral ear, often accompanied by tinnitus
- vertigo
- lower motor neurone seventh nerve palsy
- altered sensation on the face ipsilaterally
- absent corneal reflex ipsilaterally
- ataxia ipsilaterally
- pyramidal signs - ipsilateral or bilateral - due to brain stem shift and compression of contralateral cerebral peduncles
A progressing cerebellar pontine angle lesion in the absence of hearing defect is more typical of a meningioma than an acoustic neuroma.
