clinical features

If there is true foetal infection, features may include:

  • microcephaly
  • intracranial calcification
  • retinopathy

Clinical features of neonatal infection occur in the first month of life and include:

  • lethargy
  • hepatosplenomegaly
  • bleeding
  • neurological symptoms
  • vesicular rash

The infection may be localised to the skin, mouth or eyes though disseminated disease may occur with CNS and visceral involvement.
