massive pulmonary embolism

Massive pulmonary embolus is characterised by:

  • sudden circulatory collapse:
    • hypotension
    • cold peripheries
    • cyanosis
    • central chest pain due to myocardial isachaemia
  • hyperventilation
  • neck vein engorgement
  • coma
  • ECG changes - S1,Q3,T3 with right axis deviation and right bundle branch block
