ECG is usually normal in the neonatal period, although later there may be right ventricular hypertrophy.
Chest radiology reveals:
- slight cardiomegaly
- characteristic egg-shaped heart
- pulmonary plethora
Echocardiography is diagnostic in that it demonstrates the transposition. The aorta and pulmonary artery lie in parallel, ie they do not wind around each other, and the aorta lies in front of the pulmonary artery, which is abnormal.
