MEN-II

Last reviewed 01/2018

In the UK, about 20 cases per year of this form of MEN are diagnosed.

MEN type II is a familial predisposition to tumours of the thyroid parafollicular C cells and the adrenal medulla.

There are two variants:

  • MEN-2A
  • MEN-2B

The condition has been mapped to chromosome 10q11.2.

The standard screening test for MEN-II is the measurement of serum calcitonin after the administration of pentagastrin.
