Premedication in the obese patient should be taken orally or intravenously. The intramuscular route is associated with unpredictable pharmacokinetics.

H2 receptor antagonists and metoclopramide should be given in order to reduce gastric acidity and the risk of aspiration.

Anticholinergic premedication is advisable in patients who are likely to have a difficult intubation.
