Treatment involves:
- administration of oxygen
- bronchodilators may be indicated
- i.v. hydrocortisone (100-200mg iv)
- intubation
- iv colloid infusions to maintain blood pressure
- intermittent positive-pressure ventilation: may be required to if respiratory failure ensues
- bronchial lavage
- antibiotics only if bacterial infection
