The superior lingular bronchopulmonary segment of the left superior lobe is supplied by the superior lingular segmental bronchus, a branch of the left superior lobar bronchus. With the inferior lingular bronchopulmonary segment, the superior segment forms the 'lingula'; this is the equivalent area to the right middle lobe.
The superior lingular segment only has anterior and lateral surfaces that are not enclosed by surrounding segments. Its superior surface lies inferior to the anterior segment of the superior lobe. Posteriorly, its surface forms part of the oblique fissure that is anterior to both the apical, anterior basal and possibly subapical segments of the lower lobe. Inferiorly sits the inferior lingular segment. Medially is the hilum of the left lung.
