Antiplatelet drugs, particularly aspirin, may be effective in reducing the incidence of stroke in patients at risk from cardiogenic emboli. Aspirin in combination with low intensive oral anticoagulation, particularly, warfarin, may be even more beneficial. Anticoagulation to INR's of 2-3 appears effective in those with non-valvular atrial fibrillation.
