Sideroblastic anaemia is managed by removing the precipitating factor is possible e.g. alcohol.

The underlying disorder may be treated e.g. myelodysplasia.

Pyridoxine should be tried as it occasionally helps in both congenital and acquired sideroblastic anaemia.

Supportive care include:

  • blood transfusion
  • antibiotics
  • iron chelation if iron overload is threatened
