Intermittent claudication is a cramp-like, muscular pain in the calf, brought on by exercise and relieved only by rest. It is a symptom of chronic, arterial insufficiency of the lower limb. The patient may begin to limp, the name of this condition originating from the Latin "claudicare" meaning to limp.
