AIDS (presentation in sub-Saharan Africa)

AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa presents with a clinical picture known as Slim disease.The term was used by people in rural areas of Uganda to the HIV wasting syndrome. It is characterised by prolonged diarrhoea, fever and profound wasting (1).

Individuals with AIDS in these countries are also more likely than their western counterparts to develop tuberculosis infection.
