The causes of type B lactic acidosis include:
- biguanide drugs e.g. phenformin
- acute liver failure
- ethanol and methanol poisoning
- leukaemia or lymphoma
- intravenous administration of fructose or sorbitol e.g. during parenteral nutrition
- thiamine deficiency
- salicylate poisoning
