Autoimmune haemolytic anaemia may be due to:

  • warm reactive IgG autoantibodies
  • cold reactive IgM autoantibodies / cold haemagglutin disease
  • drug provoked haemolytic anaemia
  • complement activating IgG of paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria

The combination of autoimmune haemolytic anaemia and thrombocytopaenia is called Evan's syndrome.
