oesophageal stricture

Oesophageal strictures are a narrowing of the oesophagus.

The patient may present with dysphagia or impaction of a food bolus.

The causes of oesophageal stricture include:

  • oesophageal carcinoma
  • chronic acid reflux
  • caustic injury
  • chronic iron deficiency (Plummer-Vinson syndrome)
