assessment of impairment and disability

Last reviewed 01/2018

In assessing impairment and disability there is much overlap between common clinical methods i.e. examination and specific disability scales.

It is important to consider:

  • activities of daily living (Barthel index)
  • communication - hearing, dysphasia - Kew test
  • cognitive function - Mental Test Score, Kew test
  • mood and affect - Zung or Hamilton depression rating scales
  • kitchen assessment - before discharge home
