Solitary and easily accessible metastatic brain tumours are excised and followed up with radiotherapy.
Steroids are the most widely used treatment for non- excisable lesions, backed up by adequate analgesia. However, whole brain irradiation alone may be used.
Solitary metastasis treated by excision and radiotherapy has an approximate 2 year median survival. The results are less good where there is evidence of systemic disease; the median survival is about 6 months.
