Syndactyly rarely warrants extensive investigation. Plain radiography are essential for indicating the presence and extent of bony fusion. The condition of the flexor and extensor tendons may be assessed by using ultrasonography or MRI scanning. The pattern of the digital arteries may be ascertained by angiography or digital subtraction angiography.
