The clinical diagnosis of chickenpox is generally quite straightforward.
However in if clinical diagnosis of chickenpox is in doubt then the conditions in the differential diagnosis include:
- herpes simplex
- disseminated herpes zoster
- impetigo
- drug related eruptions
- contact dermatitis
- erythema multiforme
- Stevens Johnson syndrome
- hand, foot and mouth disease
- scabies
- disseminated molluscum contagiosum
