lymphadenopathy and hypogammaglobulinaemia

Last reviewed 01/2018

This condition usually occurs in adolescence, comprising:

  • febrile illness
  • lymphadenopathy
  • idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura

There is usually spontaneous recovery over a period of a few weeks. However after a period of about 2-3 months the patient may present with recurrent infections, splenomegaly, lymphopaenia and hypogammaglobulinaemia.

Often there is gross generalised lymphadenopathy which on histological examination reveals germinal centre hyperplasia.
