paraesthesiae (lateral and volar aspect of forearm)

Last reviewed 01/2018

The musculocutaneous nerve is a branch of the outer cord of the brachial plexus, carrying fibres from C5 and C6. It innervates the principal flexors of the elbow, biceps and brachialis. Injuries other than from direct trauma are rare.

Lesions produce:

  • weakness of elbow flexion and forearm supination
  • sensory loss over the lateral and volar aspect of the forearm
  • an absent biceps reflex
