hypotonic bladder
Last reviewed 01/2018
Detrusor areflexia or a hypotonic bladder may result from:
- lower motor neurone disease
- spinal cord injury
- autonomic neuropathy - e.g. diabetes mellitus
Normal voiding is impaired, the bladder becomes enlarged, and eventually, overflow incontinence results.
Intermittent self-catheterisation is the mainstay of treatment.
