alveolar sacs

The alveolar sacs are dilatations at the distal section of individual alveolar ducts into which multiple alveoli open. Typically, 20-30 alveoli open into each sac. Occasionally, small alveolar sacs may be seen in the proximal walls of the alveolar ducts.
