Last reviewed 01/2018
Mild HE accounts for 90% of cases of HE. It is characterised by:
- absence of anaemia and splenomegaly
- mild haemolysis is typical, however 10-20% show moderate haemolysis which is possibly due to concomitant infection or splenomegaly due to other diseases
- reticulocyte count of 1-4% of total red blood cells
- prominent elliptocytes in peripheral blood smear
No treatment is necessary.
