The left surface of the heart is a poorly-defined aspect that projects superiorly, posteriorly and to the left. It sits in the recess of the cardiac impression of the lung. It is mainly formed by the left venticle, but the left atrium and auricle make a small contribution superiorly.
Over the left surface of the heart, the left phrenic nerve runs in the outer pericardial layers along with associated vessels.
