class II antiarrhythmics

Class II of the antiarrhythmics comprises the beta blockers.
Class II drugs are useful in preventing the arrhythmias caused by myocardial ishcaemia, where this has resulted in an ectopic focus. They reduce oxygen consumption, having an anti-ischaemic effect.
