clinical features

Infection may be asymptomatic (25-50%) (1)
Most cases have symptoms of diarrhoea, abdominal pain (which may be prominent) and fever (1)
Most cases are self-limiting within 2-3 days (80-90% resolve within 1 week)
May experience bloody stools and vomiting and feeling generally unwell
- abdominal pain
- diarrhoea (often bloody)
- rarely:
- septicaemia
- reactive arthritis
- pancreatitis
- endocarditis
- Guillain-Barre syndrome
- haemolytic uraemic syndrome
- this condition may mimic acute appendicitis or colitis
