- early HDN; onset: 0-24h; common bleeding sites - intracranial, thoracic, abdominal, cephalohaematoma; aetiology - maternal drugs (warfarin, anti-convulsants)
- classic HDN; onset: 1-7d; common bleeding sites - GIT,skin,nasal,circumcision; aetiology - idiopathic maternal drugs
- late HDN; onset: 2-12wk; common bleeding sites - intracranial,skin,GIT - intracranial haemorrhage accounts for 50% of bleeding episodes at presentation; aetiology - idiopathic, presenting feature of other disease (CF, biliary atresia, alpha-1 antitrypsin def.); often some degree of cholestasis present
