aetiology of localised peritonitis

Localised peritonitis can be caused by:

  • transmural bowel inflammation, e.g. appendicitis, diverticulitis, Crohn's disease
  • transmural inflammation of other viscera, e.g. salpingitis, cholecystitis
  • transmural ischaemia, e.g. ischaemic bowel obstruction - strangulating hernia
