Coarctation of the aorta:

  • occurs twice as often in males
  • associated with Turner's syndrome
  • associated with maternal diabetes during pregnancy
  • associated with aortic valve anomalies - 70% associated with a bicuspid aortic valve - and ventricular septal defect. Complex cardiac conditions such as single ventricle and tricuspid atresia are also associated with coarctation.
