post-herpetic neuralgia

Post-herpetic neuralgia is a common and severe complication of shingles.
There are a range of definitions of post-herpetic neuroalgia, including:
- pain which persists after the shingles rash has healed
- pain which persists 30 days after the onset of shingles
The symptoms are usually confined to the involved dermatome and include:
- paraesthesia
- hyperalgesia
- allodynia
